Dear all:
Not long ago LCWR sent an invitation to religiouscongregations to join U.S.Catholic Sisters Against Human Trafficking USCSAHT. This new organization would be a "collaborative, faith-based national network that offers education, supports access to survivor services, and engages in advocacy in an effort to eradicate modern-day slavery."
It would "provide members with a public, corporate voice on the issue of human trafficking and the opportunity to share resources, experience and expertise. Membership info at these following sites fills out the picture: http://sistersagainsttrafficking.org/ and http://sistersagainsttrafficking.org/join-us/
We are asserting that our role is US justice- oriented . Our membership might or might not work in this organization because their reach is global--as in their recent newsletter publishing on Nigerrian child soldiers released (!). We need to take care about our "missioners" and the people they serve. How do weaffirm/criticize in a connected global world much in need of both affirmation and critique and yet be protective of our ministries abroad? I guess with care. Thoughts?
