The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur are recognized officially by the United Nations as a NGO (non-governmental organization). We are presented by Sr Joan F. Burke, SND, who is the Congregation's permanent representative at the UN headquarters in New York, NY, USA.

Sr. Joan works on a number of issues and committees that are a natural extension of her life as a Sister of Notre Dame. She is active on the UN Economic and Social Council, which is the principal body of the UN that coordinates all work in the economic and social fields, just as the UN Security Council is responsible for all questions of peace and security.
