Sisters of Notre Dame in Nicaragua
SND project began here in 1981
There are three Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who have been sent by their home provinces to live and work among the people of Nicaragua.
Our Sisters live and work here in a variety of ways to help families and communities raise standards of living. One Sister works with the parents of disabled children, teaching skills for care and situation improvement.
The Sisters have helped create a park for the use of the children in the northern Managua neighborhood of Matagalpa—St. Julie’s Park.
One of our Sisters works in the mountains of northeast Nicaragua near the Honduran border, where she educates the children of local campesinos (materially poor persons).
The newest project of our Sisters in Nicaragua is the creation of a montessori school for the campesino children in Mululkuku in rural Nicaragua. This is being made possible through the generosity of the members of a parish outside Chicago.
